Rose Margarita

This Rose Margarita is a seriously delicious and interesting cocktail. The addition of a touch rose water to the mix adds a wonderful fragrance and flavor.

With its faint scent of roses, this margarita is so intriguing (and of course, tasty). It's definitely meant for sipping.

About four years ago, a friend of mine passed me a ripped out page of the April 2009 issue of Bon Appetit magazine. Her goal? To get me to try the Rose Margarita. In fact, I had already bookmarked the same recipe.

A reader had written in to the R.S.V.P. readers' favorite restaurant recipes section of the magazine to request the recipe for this margarita from Stack, a Las Vegas restaurant in The Mirage.

The reader had fallen in love with this margarita... and called it "the most interesting cocktail I've ever had."

What is Rose Water?

Rose water is made by steeping rose petals in water or by using steam to extract the essence.

It can be used for flavoring drinks, baked goods, and other dishes. It's also used for skin treatments too! Of course, use food grade rose water for cooking and baking.

The strength of the rose scent and flavor can vary by brand, so experiment with the amount you use when switching brands. I've found that the brands sold in Middle Eastern grocery stores are more mellow than the U.S. brand I tried (which was very strong).

For sweetening the margarita, I like to use a small amount of frozen limeade concentrate. You can keep it in the freezer in a jar and just spoon it out as needed. Of course, you can use simple syrup if you prefer.

Definitely use fresh lime juice along with tequila blanco and Grand Marnier. Rather than salting the rim of the glass, I drop a tiny pinch of sea salt over the top of the finished drink.

I prefer serving this margarita "up," but feel free to serve it over ice.

This week the From Our Dinner Table group is celebrating the Margarita! If you love margaritas, you'll probably want to try them all.
