Mini Orange Creamsicle Shots, an iconic dessert turned into a seriously tasty tiny cocktail.
Orange and vanilla are a wonderful flavor combination, especially when it involves vanilla ice cream.
It reminds my of my childhood when the ice cream truck would come by the Little League games and we would buy these delicious frozen orange "Long Johns" that were filled with vanilla ice cream.
It also reminds me of Orange Julius, a drive-through where you could get these ice cream and orange based shakes that were soooooo delicious.
It also faintly reminds me of fiori di sicilia, which is used to flavor panettone and other Italian baked goods.
These mini orange creamsicle shots are a totally cute dessert for a "tiny" cocktail party where you have mini cocktails, appetizers, and tapas-sized main courses.
This is sort of a "fun size" cocktail. Picture these on a buffet table at a party... cute, right? I love anything mini!
P.S. If you love this flavor combination, and want something you can serve to the kids, check out these orange vanilla popsicles.
What ingredients do you need to make these mini orange creamsicle shots?
- Vodka
- Orange soda
- Orange, tangelo, or tangerine juice
- Vanilla extract
- Triple Sec
- Vanilla ice cream
- Sparkling sugar
If you happen to have vanilla vodka, you can skip the vanilla extract.
For the tiny shot glasses, I found lots of cute ones at Marshall's and Home Goods. They're pretty easy to store too if you keep them in the box. I love using them for mini mousse desserts and trifles.
This recipe is celebrating the seasonal citrus that is available this time of year.
We have three citrus trees in our super tiny yard that produce an amazing amount of fruit. First, we have a lemon tree. I'm not sure what kind of lemons they are.. they are sweeter than regular lemons, but the rinds are thick and the lemons are the size of grapefruits, so I have no idea what kind of lemons they are.
Next, we have a tangelo tree that is amazingly prolific. Unfortunately, the possums and raccoons in the neighborhood have discovered it so it's a constant race against time to harvest the fruit before they do.
Finally, we have a Bearss lime tree that is still in its infancy. This year, it has produced an amazing amount of limes for how small it is. You can see slices of the limes in this post about pan fried catfish.
This recipe was inspired by the book, Tiny Food Party! The book also includes tiny Bloody Marys, Champagne cocktails, pineapple cocktails, coffeecake cocktails, lemonades, lemon-lime fizzes, and eggnog shooters.
Chapters include Tiny Snack Party, Tiny Dinner Party, Tiny Dessert Party, and Tiny Cocktail Party! It's very cute.

DeleteHow long do they hold? Can I make a decent sized batch and keep refrigerated for a night? Does the ice cream separate and need to be remixed or does it become curdled?
ReplyDeleteI did not make these the day before. I imagine that you would need to remix, but I don't know for sure.
