These M&Ms and Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are filled with lots of M&Ms and mini chocolate chips.
These M&M bars are sweet and chocolatey. The added crunch from the candy coating of M&Ms makes these bars even more fun and delicious.
Along with the M&Ms, these cookie bars also include mini chocolate chips, just to to add a little semi-sweet chocolate to the mix.
What is cool about making chocolate chip cookie bars is that you don't have to worry about the dough spreading or your cookies getting all lopsided. This is also helpful if you are adding candy to your cookies.
For these bars, I used pastel colored plain M&Ms, but I can't wait to try them with peanut ones too. In fact, there are so many new flavors of M&Ms that I bet would be tasty in these bars. Right now I'm thinking about the peanut butter filled and caramel filled ones.
How do you make M&Ms cookie bars?
Making these bars is pretty much the same as making chocolate chip cookies, except you spread the dough out over a foil or parchment lined pan.
They may take longer to bake, but they are so convenient. You can let them cool in the pan, and then just lift them out with the foil or parchment and lay them on a cutting board for slicing. Plus, they stay fresh for a long time in an airtight container.
They are pretty hard to mess up, which makes them great for baking with kids.

M&Ms and Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe
Yield: 24 bars
ingredients:
- 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 cups (13.5 ounces) unbleached all purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups M&Ms
- 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

How to cook M&Ms and Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe
- Heat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a 9 inch by 13 inch cake pan with foil or parchment paper, with the foil or paper overhanging the sides of the pan (to lift the bars out later). Spray the lining with spray oil.
- Cream the butter and sugars together with a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until each is incorporated.
- Beat in the vanilla.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
- Beat in the M&Ms and chocolate chips.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the pan.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan completely on a wire rack.
- Slice and serve.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
