This epic burger is part of a fantastic month-long event hosted by Girl Carnivore!
This burger is a 1/3 pound ground chuck patty, grilled to medium, topped with 2 strips of thick cut bacon, smoked cheddar cheese, and an amazing homemade bourbon barbecue sauce.
With the beef, bacon, cheese, and sweet bourbon sauce, this burger doesn't need anything else.
How to make this bourbon bacon cheeseburger.
First, you will need to make the bourbon sauce. The recipe makes about 3 cups of sauce. This is more than you will need for these burgers, but you have no trouble using the rest of it any time you want to use barbecue sauce.
The sauce is sweet, spicy, and delicious.
Along with a 3/4 cup of bourbon, there are so many ingredients in this sauce, including soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic, minced onion, Tabasco, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
The ingredient list is kind of big, but you probably have most of the ingredients on hand. Plus, the flavor combination is amazing.
To make it, you simmer all of the ingredients, along with a cup of water, stirring constantly. When it is fully simmering, you add a mixture of cornstarch, powdered sugar, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Keep stirring and simmering until the sauce thickens, about one minute.
Meanwhile fry the bacon until crispy and drain on paper towels.
To build this bourbon bacon cheeseburger:
After you've grilled the meat patties and while they are still on the griddle, top them with two bacon slices and a slice of smoked cheddar. Continue to grill until the cheese is fully melted.
Place the burger on a buttered and grilled sandwich bun.
Next, smother the burger in the sweet and spicy bourbon sauce. Be generous. This burger is meant to be messy.
Plus, the sauce is crazy good.
Finally, place the other half of the grilled sandwich bun on top of the juicy burger and dig in.
Be sure to have plenty of napkins nearby. The juices might run down your arms to your elbows, but it's totally worth it.
I love a good burger, including this Frisco Burger, the Oklahoma Fried Onion Short Rib Burger, and this copycat Double-Double.
That's why I'm excited to participate in another Burger Month, hosted by Girl Carnivore. After the recipe, be sure to enter to win a great grilling prize package.
