This baked pear dessert is such a light and and delicious twist on baked apples.
Serve these baked pears topped with a scoop of ice cream for a refreshing after dinner treat.

You can definitely make this recipe with apples too. In fact, the original recipe from Melissa's Produce calls for apples. After I received these gorgeous crunchy Butterscotch Pears, I thought it would be fun to try adapting the recipe for them.
These pears are grown in Korea and shipped in little jackets to keep them fresh and blemish free. They are crisp, sweet, and super juicy. They are larger than an apple and just simply gorgeous.
These pears are so refreshing. They are fabulous eaten out of hand, in salads and even pear and ginger cakes.
This baked pear dessert is super easy to make. Plus it's easy to reheat leftovers. In fact, we've been enjoying leftovers for breakfast by reheating individual servings for about 45 seconds in the microwave. It's all I can do to resist topping my breakfast with a scoop of ice cream.
Frankly, I think ice cream for breakfast these days is pretty much permitted. Don't you?
To make these baked pears, all you need to do is peel and slice the pears, toss them with some spices, vanilla, lemon juice, and a tiny bit of bourbon, and top them with bits of butter.
You bake the pears at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes, tossing them halfway through. The resulting pears are still crisp and totally enhanced by the spices.
This dish is so light that you can justify serving it as a side dish too.
They would be delicious with pork chops, over pancakes and waffles, in oatmeal, and wrapped in crêpes.
The spices in this dish include cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. I'm pretty sure if you have some apple pie spice, you could substitute it for the mix of spices.
To prevent the pears from browning as you peel and slice them, toss them in a bowl with the lemon juice called for in the recipe. The acid will prevent the pears from changing colors.
We were able to keep leftovers in the refrigerator for three days without compromising texture or flavor.
This baked pear dessert is delicious. My favorite way of serving it is warm topped with rich vanilla ice cream.
My second favorite way of serving it is for breakfast in oatmeal with a bit of maple syrup.
Baked Pear Dessert Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 lbs Butterscotch or Asian Pears, cored, peeled, and cut into 1/2 inch thick pieces
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cold buttercut into cubes
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350°F
- In a large bowl, combine the lemon juice and the pear slices.
- Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cornstarch, vanilla extract and bourbon. Toss until evenly coated
- Spread mixture into a 2-quart baking dish. Place butter cubes over the top of the pears.
- Bake for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through.
- Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
