This cranberry Negroni cocktail recipe takes the classic bittersweet Italian cocktail and adds the sweet-tart flavor of cranberry sauce.
A traditional Negroni is made with equal parts gin, Campari, and red vermouth. It's typically served before dinner over rocks with an orange garnish.
What is Campari? Campari is an Italian-made bitter aperitif served in various cocktails such as the Negroni and Americano. It's a deep red color and can be an acquired taste for some.
If you want to start trying bitter spirits with training wheels, definitely try Campari's milder sibling, Aperol. It has a similar flavor profile, but is much milder. Some of my favorite cocktails with Aperol include the Italian margarita and the bittersweet martini.
This negroni is a great way to use some of your leftover cranberry sauce. Just add two tablespoons of the cranberry sauce to the rest of the ingredients, shake or stir, and strain into a glass. It's delicious straight up or on the rocks.
The cranberry sauce adds such a beautiful color and flavor to the traditional negroni that you may want to have cranberry sauce on hand all of the time.
For more cocktails using Campari, be sure to try the Tanjeen Negroni, which is a mix of gin, a small amount of Campari, and the juice of a tangerine. You can also try the Siesta Margarita, which is made with tequila, citrus juices, and a half ounce of Campari.
I hope you'll give Campari a try.
