These air fryer Buffalo chicken wings are so crispy and flavorful. Be sure to give everyone extra napkins, because they are going to want seconds.
Made in an air fryer, they are a delicious lightened up take on the the deep fried restaurant version. The skin is super crispy even after being tossed in the tasty Buffalo sauce.
Serve these with cool blue cheese dressing (or ranch if you prefer) along with the traditional carrot and celery sticks. They are amazing straight from the air fryer.
I love chicken wings. I'm pretty sure I've contributed to the temporary wing shortage in some way, and I've gotten my oldest grandson hooked on them too. Making chicken wings is my favorite way of getting him to come visit.
I just counted, and this is the twelfth chicken wings post on this site, including pepper glazed, hot honey, and Korean-style barbecue! While wings will never overtake the number of bread recipes here (a bazillion and counting), as you can see, I'm a big fan.
I loved how the wings, after spending 22 minutes in the air fryer, had such a crispy skin and juicy meat.
Tip for selecting your chicken wings:
While you can buy drumettes and wingettes, wing parts that have already been separated, I like to buy whole wings and separate them myself. All you need is a good cleaver or super sharp santuko-style knife.
The reason I like doing this myself is that I can freeze and save the wing tips to later use to make chicken broth or gravy. When I have enough, I just simmer them in water to make stock.
How to make air fryer Buffalo chicken wings:
First, toss the wings in a marinade of a small amount of hot sauce, vinegar, oregano, garlic powder, and salt.
Next, air fry the wings in two batches in your air fryer. If your toaster oven has an air fryer function, you can air fry all of the wings at the same time. I actually have both but decided to use my air fryer because cleanup would be easier.
If you decide to use the air fry function in your toaster oven, reduce the cooking time to 16 minutes.
Once you've air fried all of the wings, return them all to the air fryer basket for a minute to make sure they are hot.
Finally, place them in a bowl and toss them with the Buffalo sauce.
These wings are so easy to prepare! In fact, if you are hosting a game day party, you can keep cranking them out as your guests get hungry. Just fire up the air fryer. More wings everybody!
I've included a lightened up blue cheese dressing for dipping. If you're a ranch person, you can always substitute that.
And don't forget the celery and carrot sticks!

Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 12 pieces chicken wing portions (or 6 whole chicken wings, separated into drummettes and wingettes, tips saved for later)
- 6 tablespoons Frank's RedHot sauce
- 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
- 1/3 cup plain or Greek yogurt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 1/2 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
Instructions
- Toss the wings with 1 tablespoon of the Frank's RedHot, the vinegar, oregano, garlic powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Let marinade for 15 minutes and up to overnight.
- While the wings are marinating, combine the dip ingredients, mashing the blue cheese and yogurt together with the rest of the ingredients. Cover and refrigerate.
- Heat the rest of the Frank's RedHot with the melted butter and brown sugar. Set aside.
- Working with 6 pieces at a time, air fry the chicken for 22 minutes at 400 degrees F, flipping them over half way through.
- Transfer the cooked wings to a bowl while you air fry the rest of the chicken pieces.
- Once you've cooked all of the wing pieces, place them back into the air fryer and cook for 1 minute more to reheat. Place the Wings into a clean bowl and toss with the hot sauce mixture.
- Serve with the blue cheese dip along with celery and carrot sticks.

You can try. If you have a convection setting, use that and watch the timing. I haven't tried it yet but it probably will work but might take longer.
