These chocolate peanut butter spider bites are a fun, salty-sweet treat to serve at your next Halloween party.
These chocolate and peanut butter pretzel spiders are made with just four ingredients and are great for making with kids. In fact, you could make these as an activity for kids to do during a family gathering.
They don't have to be perfectly shaped at all, and you can get as creative and messy as you want when putting these together.
This recipe is more like a "recipe" in quotes in that it's not that precise and you might end up with a few extra chocolate coated pretzels. That's not a bad thing. They're handy for snacking while assembling your spiders.
I wish I knew the weight of the pretzels you will need, but it was hard to tell. I used a large 8-cup Pyrex measuring cup to measure the pretzels, and counted out enough extra pretzel sticks for eight legs per spider. A large "family-sized" bag of pretzels will have you covered.
I was inspired by a video on Food Network.
Ingredients:
Pretzel sticks. If they are too long for making the spider legs, you can break off a bit.
Creamy peanut butter.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips. Use 1/2 cup of peanut butter to a 12-ounce bag of chocolate chips.
Marshmallow bits. They are simply itty-bitty marshmallows and usually come in a jar. Use these for the spider eyes. You could also use white chocolate chips or candy eyeballs.
Procedure:
First, melt the chocolate chips with the peanut butter, either over a double boiler or in the microwave. I microwaved the chocolate and the peanut butter in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until the chocolate was almost melted.
Next, break most of the pretzels into pieces. Don't pulverize them, just break them into smaller bits and pieces. Be sure to reserve enough pretzels for the spider legs.
Pour most, but not all of the chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the broken up pretzel sticks and stir it all together and then, using two spoons, form the spider bodies and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet. They should be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.
Next, dip the spider leg pretzel sticks into the reserved chocolate and place them over the bodies of the spiders. Top the spider bodies with a dollop of the chocolate peanut butter mixture and then place the marshmallow bits into the chocolate for the eyes.
Finally, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to set the chocolate before serving.
If you have the patience, I think it might be really fun to try sprinkling chocolate jimmies or non pareils over the body of the spiders to make them look fuzzy and even more spider-like.
Equipment You May Need:
You don't need anything special at all, just a few spoons for stirring the chocolate and forming the spider bodies, a large glass measuring cup for melting the chocolate and peanut butter, and a zip lock bag for smashing the pretzels.
You will also need a baking sheet and some parchment paper for chilling the spiders in the fridge.
If you want to serve these chocolate and pretzel spider treats right after assembling them, simply place them in the freezer for about five minutes.
These chocolate peanut butter spiders are so good and crazy easy to make. If you're looking for something fun to make that is super easy and delicious, be sure to try these chocolate peanut butter spiders!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Spider Bites
Ingredients
- 12 ounce bag of semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 8 cups pretzel sticks (approximately 1 "family-sized" bag)
- 48 marshmallow bits or white chocolate chips for eyes
Instructions
- Place 4 large baking sheet-sized sheets of parchment paper on your work surface.
- Using a microwave or a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter in a bowl. If you are using the microwave, cook the ingredients in 30 second bursts, stirring in between.
- Set aside 192 pretzel sticks (8 legs per spider) for the spider legs.
- Break up the remaining pretzels into 3 to 4 pieces each place them in a bowl. Pour all but about 3/4 cup of the melted chocolate and peanut butter over the broken pretzels and mix them to coat.
- Using two tablespoons, form the spider bodies and place them on the parchment paper. They should be about 1 1/2 inches long. Leave enough room for the spider legs.
- If necessary, shorten the leftover pretzels if they are too long by breaking off a bit of each. Dip the broken off end into the remaining chocolate and place the legs on the bodies of the spiders, four per side.
- Spoon some of the rest of the melted chocolate over the tops of the bodies and then place the marshmallow bits into the chocolate for the eyes.
- Chill in the fridge or freezer to set the chocolate before serving.
