These mini pizza skulls are tasty little treats to serve at your next Halloween party.
These pizza bites are so easy to make. You can use your favorite pre-made pizza dough, such as Pillsbury, or you can use your own favorite pizza dough recipe and then stuff them with everything you love on a pizza.
This week I'm sharing three Halloween themed recipes for #HalloweenTreatsWeek, including Spiced Skull Cakelets, Severed Hand Pies, and these Mini Pizza Skull Bites.
For the cakelets, I bought a NordicWare mini skull cake pan, therefore, I needed to further "justify" the purchase with a savory bake.
Ingredients and Substitutions:
Pizza Dough: I used pre-made Pillsbury pizza dough. You can also make your own pizza dough, or substitute a stuffed roll dough that can be rolled thin.
Pizza Sauce: You can use jarred pizza sauce or make your own.
Pepperoni: I filled these with chopped turkey pepperoni, but you can use sausage, onions, olives, onions, peppers, or any of your favorite pizza toppings.
Mozzarella Cheese.
Egg Wash: A mixture of egg and water.
To Make these Halloween Pizza Bites:
First, roll out the pizza dough to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thin and then cut the dough into four inch circles with a cookie cutter or glass.
Next, place one of the dough circles over a skull cavity in the pan, and add cheese, sauce, and chopped pepperoni until the cavity is almost full. Don't worry about fitting the dough perfectly in the cavity, the dough will expand as it rises in the oven and fill the cavities.
After that, using your finger, spread some of the egg wash on the edges of the dough and fold it over to seal. If the dough has some gaps, you can patch it with small pieces of dough scraps.
Repeat with the rest of the dough and fillings, and then brush the tops of the filled pizza bites with more egg wash.
Finally, bake the pizza skulls for about 18 minutes at 375 degrees F.
You can serve these as is, or with some more pizza sauce for dipping. I like to fill the eyes with a few dabs of pizza sauce. You could also slit the mouth open and drop in a bit of sauce for an even creepier effect.

I might just have to break down and buy one of these mini skull pans. I will just have to pull it out with my other pan each year. That's 2 Halloween blog posts handled LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a plan!
DeleteI just reorganized all my cabinets and there just happens to be a space left in my pan rack for one more fancy pan. I love how a few simple ingredients can come together into such a fun meal!
ReplyDeleteThe dots of marinara in the eyes are cracking me up! You would also use a little caper in there, too. I might have to get that skull pan. These recipes are so cute! And delicious.
ReplyDeleteSo many stuffed skulls, so little time! And pizza filling is the best!
